About the Opportunity

Asian Law College (ALC), Noida, through its Pro Bono Club established under the aegis of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, is organizing the National Drafting Championship 2026 (Virtual). The championship is a prestigious national-level academic competition aimed at enhancing legal drafting, analytical thinking, structured writing, research aptitude, and problem-solving skills among students across India.

The competition provides participants with an opportunity to engage with contemporary legal, governance, policy, and societal issues through practical drafting exercises and academic writing. It seeks to promote intellectual engagement, critical inquiry, and innovative thinking among students from diverse educational backgrounds.

Competition Categories

Participants can register in the following segments:

1. Contract Drafting

Participants will assume the role of legal counsel and draft professionally structured, commercially viable, and legally enforceable agreements based on the given proposition. The focus will be on clarity, precision, and effective risk allocation.

2. Treaty Drafting

This segment requires participants to draft a bilateral treaty addressing complex international legal issues while incorporating rights, obligations, dispute resolution mechanisms, and principles of public international law.

3. Legislative Drafting

Participants will formulate statutory provisions to regulate a given issue, emphasizing legislative intent, clarity of language, consistency, and statutory interpretation.

4. Policy Drafting

Participants will prepare a comprehensive policy framework addressing contemporary governance and regulatory challenges, incorporating implementation mechanisms, accountability standards, and public impact considerations.

5. Essay Writing

This segment invites participants to express their views on contemporary issues through well-structured, creative, and analytical essays. It focuses on originality, critical thinking, and effective expression.

Eligibility

Contract Drafting, Treaty Drafting, Legislative Drafting, and Policy Drafting

  • Open to students currently enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at recognized colleges and universities in India.

Essay Writing

  • Open exclusively to students studying in Class XI and XII.

Team Composition

  • Participation may be individual or in teams of up to two members.
  • Cross-institutional teams are permitted.
  • There is no restriction on the number of participants from a single institution.
  • Participants may register for a maximum of two competition segments.

Important Rules

  • All submissions must be in English.
  • Submissions must be original and prepared exclusively by registered participants.
  • Plagiarism exceeding 10% may lead to penalties or disqualification.
  • AI-generated substantive content beyond 10% is strictly prohibited and may result in disqualification.
  • Registration implies acceptance of all competition rules.
  • The decision of judges and the organizing committee shall be final and binding.
  • Copyright of submissions shall vest with Asian Law College, subject to due credit to authors.

How to Register

  1. Fill out the registration form.
  2. Select the competition segment(s) (maximum two).
  3. Complete participant details.
  4. Upload payment receipt with transaction ID.
  5. Upload a valid student ID card.
  6. Submit the registration form.
  7. Receive your Team Code through email within two days.
  8. Submit your final draft through the submission form shared by the organizers.
